Agate is named after the Achates River in Sicily, where it was first discovered in large quantities. Agate is found worldwide, with major producing regions including China, Brazil, the United States, India, Egypt, Australia, and Mexico.
In archaeological cultures, humans have long used Agate as decoration or sacred objects. Although it shares the same mineral composition as quartz and chalcedony, Agate has more colors and a smoother texture, making it highly valued in Japan for use in magatama beads and by those focused on spiritual exploration.
